This mine was drilled twenty years ago and it’s never been commercially worked…A week ago Gold Fields announced they aim to produce 1m ounces from South America by 2015. All across the board we’re seeing mining companies motivated by the current surge in gold prices.

The gold price has shaped companies that rely on it and this doesn’t just include miners. This week Franco-Nevada, the mining royalty company said it experienced record gold royalty revenue for the third quarter.

RioZim , Zimbabwe’s largest listed resource corporation, is planning to increase gold production to 80kg from the current 60kg a month at its Renco mine. Or, as Homeland Security chief Janet Napolitano would call them, "A dangerous right-wing extremist hate group."
Even back in the Puritan days, Mother's female ancestors were brought up on charges for their heretical dressing styles (and then sassed the judge). During the Revolution, one female ancestor, Effie Ten Eyck Van Varick, contributed to the rebel cause by donating lead for bullets from the curtain weights in her home in what was, even then, traitorous, loyalist Manhattan.
Mother's deep-seated political activism saved me on more than one occasion.
At the 2004 Republican National Convention, I was taking my parents to a lot of the parties in New York and, at one of them, Herman Cain walked up to me and told me he was a big fan even though I probably didn't know who he was.
Cain was the former president and CEO of Godfather's Pizza who was then running for the U.S. Senate from Georgia. I had seen him on Fox News' "Cavuto" -- but I couldn't remember his name for the life of me.
Luckily for me, Mother was standing next to me and she piped in, "I know who you are -- I donated to your campaign." Thank you, Mommy!
Mother probably contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to various conservative outfits over the years -- all in her little $20 checks -- especially to any organization that claimed it was going to stop Hillary. In fact, if they mentioned Hillary in their letter, Mother sometimes made it $25.
My brothers and I always figured we'd have no inheritance, but there would be a lovely memorial to Oliver North somewhere.
Mother may have thought her most notable characteristic was her Republican activism, but, for the rest of us, it was her constant, unconditional love. She was a little love machine, spreading warmth and joy wherever she went.

My brother Jimmy found out recently that she'd even forgotten that he had caused her to miss Reagan's first inauguration by getting in a car accident the night before we were leaving -- and she never should have forgotten that.
Everyone wanted my mother to be his mother. (The "his" in that sentence is grammatically correct and Mother would never let us forget it.) I'm sure everyone thinks he has the perfect mother, but we really did.
Since I was a little girl, friends, relatives and neighbors would bring their problems to Mother. She had a rare combination of being completely moral and completely nonjudgmental at the same time -- the exact opposite of liberals who have absolutely no morals and yet are ferociously judgmental.

He keeps promising to train for a different career, but instead just sits at home browsing career books. 'I'm getting frustrated with his endless dreaming and inaction,' the wife writes. 'Should I just shut up and let him dream on, or should I try to encourage him, or discourage him?'

Or what? Too often, a spouse tries to double as a career coach when an employee's job hits a dead end. This only creates marital strain when the dead-ended partner fails to respond. The spouse also has a big stake in any family financial problems caused by bad career choices, widening the gulf between husband and wife.

Few couples seek counseling for job-related marital problems, but more probably should. The California wife is so angry and frustrated with her husband that she seems to have lost respect and affection for him. Research shows that when those warm feelings are blocked, a marriage can go downhill quickly. John Gottman, an author, researcher and emeritus professor of psychology at the University of Washington, has found that marriages are far more likely to break up when positive exchanges between couples, such as humor and affection, are eclipsed by negative ones, such as criticism.

Such examples are mounting fast. Another wife told me recently that her husband is burned out on his job and wants to retire, but the family can't afford it. This wife is trying to be helpful, suggesting additional training or a transfer. But her husband isn't taking her advice and just keeps complaining instead, making her increasingly annoyed. Another wife I know gave in to her husband's incessant complaints about his job and suggested he quit. Unfortunately, this touched off an 18-month stretch of joblessness for him that nearly wrecked their marriage.

Its 18.1% increase in gross margin was attributed to better control of manufacturing overhead, improved production efficiency and higher margins from customers in Japan, the US and China.
Total sales for the first six months of the year were $43.8m, up 43.6% from the same period the prior year, while net income for the first six months was $2.5m, compared to net income of $2.3m in the same period a year ago, Ever-Glory said.

For the 2008 fiscal year, the company continues to expect revenues of $90 to $100m and net income of $8.0m to $8.6m.

"We have made great progress in our branded and retail expansion strategy in China during the first half of 2008, and we look forward to furthering that success in the second half of the year," Kang added. "We have already opened 44 La Go Go retail stores this year, and we are on track to achieve our goal of between 80 and 100 La Go Go stores in China in 2008. We remain optimistic about La Go Go's prospects, and we believe our retail business could account for 4% to 5% of total revenues for the full fiscal year."

Analysed by sub-index, the year-on-year rates of increase in the CPI (A), CPI (B) and CPI(C) were 3.4%, 3.9% and 4.0% respectively in December 2007, compared to 3.1%, 3.5% and 3.6% in November. Discerning the latest trend in consumer prices, it is also useful to look at the changes in the seasonal adjusted CPIs. For the 3-month period ended in December 2007, the average monthly rates of increase in the seasonal adjusted Composite CPI, CPI(A), CPI(B) and CPI(C) were 0.9%, 1.0%, 0.9% and 0.8% respectively. The corresponding rates of increase for the 3-month period ended in November 2007 were 0.7%, 0.8%, 0.7% and 0.6%. Apart from miscellaneous goods (3.9% in the Composite CPI and 4.5% in the CPI (A)); clothing and footwear (2.4% in the Composite CPI and 3.1% in the CPI(A)).On the other hand, year-on-year decline in prices was recorded in December 2007 for durable goods (-3.8% in the Composite CPI and -4.0% in the CPI (A)).As for miscellaneous services, the Composite CPI rose by 1.6% over a year earlier but the CPI (A) fell by 0.8%. Affected by the difference in expenditure patterns, implementation of the Pre-primary Education Voucher Scheme had smaller impact on the Composite CPI than on CPI (A), and the increase in charges for package tours had larger impact on the Composite CPI than on CPI (A), thus leading to different movements in the two CPIs.In the fourth quarter of 2007, the Composite CPI rose by 3.5% over a year earlier, while the CPI (A), CPI (B) and CPI(C) rose by 3.1%, 3.6% and 3.7% respectively. For 2007 as a whole, the Composite CPI was on average 2.0% higher than in the preceding 12-month period. The respective increases in the CPI (A), CPI (B) and CPI(C) were 1.3%, 2.2% and 2.7%.Commentary:A Government spokesman pointed out that consumer price inflation went up further in December 2007, mainly due to higher food prices particularly the surge in the prices of pork.
